Some people worry about the “inner monster” that lies in wait, prepared to lash out and destroy, but the real monster is passion. Passion is inside of all of us, even if we have no idea, its there, sleeping and waiting. It stays there, until the moment, unbidden and unwanted when it wakes. Passion will always control us. It is the source of all the greatest moments of life. The unruly joy of love. The clear certainty of hatred. The crushing ecstasy of grief. And the rushing realizations of experience. Passion brings on great pain and great joy. Without passion we might find some piece. A kind of equilibrium. But it would be hollow.

We would be hollow.

Passion is a gift from God, an expression of emotion we can not comprehend. Sometimes it will hurt us, like Promethean fire, but thank God when it does, because THAT IS LIFE. Just remember, Passion rules reason, for better of for worse.

In the end, it’s a wonderful monster to have, thank God for it.
